Hold The Pass Challenge - Day 6

John here.

Yesterday was Day 6 of the Hold The Pass Challenge. The challenge was to burn 600 calories during cardio. When I got home from work, I got changed and got to walking. I decided to try it without putting my knee brace on. It was a mistake. I’m feeling it today for sure.

From the Samsung Health app

I won’t be doing the next cardio challenge without wrapping my knee. The next challenge, and my most challenging one I have so far, is 600 pushups. I have to touch my chest to the tennis ball or the rep does not count. I’m currently fighting arthritis in my left shoulder so I’m not sure how many I will be able to do before my shoulder decides to give out.

I’m outta here.

Hold The Pass Challenge - Day 5

John here.

Yesterday was Day 5 of the Hold The Pass Challenge. The challenge was to do 600 crunches while squeezing the tennis ball between your knees. A couple of things I figured out while doing this challenge.

First off, my core is extremely weak, almost non-existant. I had gall bladder surgery earlier this year and I haven’t done any exercises to strengthen my core. I realized that after my first crunch attempt. I went as high as I could go to get the challenge done.

Second thing, I should have spread the attempts throughout the day instead of waiting until I got home to do the 600 reps. As I’m typing this, I’m a bit sore but after each 100 or so reps, I would stop to stretch so I believe the stretching has helped with me not being as sore as I thought.

I don’t have any pictures for this one. I forgot to take some. I will have some for the Day 6 challenge, which is burn 600 calories during cardio.

I’m outta here.

Hold The Pass Challenge - Day 4

John here.

Yesterday was Day 4 of the Hold The Pass Challenge. The challenge was to burn 600 calories during cardio. I had to some serious improvising to meet this challenge. I started out on a treadmill because we got back from shopping too late. Here is what I was able to do on the treadmill before I had to stop from hurting too much.

From the treadmill

I got back home and set my Samsung Health on phone for aerobics to burn the final 500 calories as a suggestion from my wife.

Screenshot of the Samsung Health app

I was able to finish but was definitely feeling it when I was done. Another day, another challenge. Day 5 is 600 crunches while squeezing the ball in between your knees. This is going to be an all day challenge for me because of work.

I’m outta here.

Hold The Pass Challenge - Day 2

John here.

Yesterday was Day 2 of Hold The Pass Challenge. The challenge consisted of two challenges - squeeze the tennis ball 600 times and burn 600 calories during cardio. Here are a couple of shots where I did my calorie burn and the time it took me to get it accomplished.

When I started my challenge

The gravel road where I did most of my challenge

Time and distance for the challenge

Today’s challenge is another ball throw but not like the first one. This one is going to be an all day challenge because of work.

I’m outta here.

Hold The Pass Challenge - Day 1

John here.

Yesterday was Day 1 of Hold The Pass Challenge. The two challenges yesterday were to squeeze the ball (shown in the previous two posts) 600 times - 300 times per arm and throw the ball 600 times - 300 times per arm against a chain link fence or a wall and time yourself. I drove to Lafayette, Louisiana and went to Girard Park to do my throws against a squash court wall. I will have to get the pictures my wife took to show where I was throwing the ball.

Time to make 600 throws

Earlier in the day, I did a 600 calorie burn to see how long it would take me to accomplish it because today’s challenge besides squeezing the ball 600 times, is to burn 600 calories. So that part was lagniappe, extra to see if I could do it and test myself. Now I have a measurement to better myself with each 600 calorie burn challenge.

How long and far to burn 600 calories

I will be posting updates daily of how I am doing in the challenge. Thanks for following me on the journey. I greatly appreciate it.

I’m outta here.

Hold The Pass Challenge

“After Ehud, Shamgar the son of ‘Anat, who killed 600 P’lishtim with an oxgoad; and he too rescued Isra’el.” Judges 3:31 CJB”

John here.

Let me explain my picture of the day yesterday. A couple of weeks, I joined a group called Gibborim. Gibborim is “most often, it is used to describe men who are ferocious warriors and noble champions.” (from the Gibborim website) The two running it, Author Cliff Graham and Soulcon Founder Cody Bobay, have a podcast on YouTube and podcast streaming applications.

Last week, they presented a challenge for those interested. It’s called “Hold The Pass” challenge based on the above scripture. It’s two weeks, 14 days of physical, mental, spiritual exercises to task yourself beyond what you think you are capable of doing. The tennis ball in yesterday’s picture is a big part of the challenge. Every exercise we do equals 600 repetitions. I will post updates and pictures on how the challenge is going for me. Since I’m not on social media, this is the only avenue to post about the challenge.

I hope everyone has an outstanding week. There is one more week of August and the fall season is almost upon us. Have a good one.

I’m outta here.

John
